Carefully follow all instructions

For the safety of you and our staff, if you fail to follow the instructions below, your procedure will be rescheduled. If you have any questions, call our office.

  • Read or watch all instructions to prepare for your procedure.
  • If you are taking Ozempic®, Moujaro®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity®, Victoza® or similar generic medications for diabetes or weight reduction stop these at least 7 days prior to your procedure. This should be done under the direction of your prescribing physician.
  • This is a sedated procedure. A responsible driver must remain in the facility throughout your appointment (~2 hours total). No exceptions.
  • We may call you 1 day before your procedure and adjust your arrival time as we finalize the clinic’s schedule.
  • No children under the age of 16 are allowed at appointments.
  • Watch for a text and email 4 days before your procedure with a link to complete your required online registration.
  • To cancel or reschedule to a different day, please call us at least 48 hours in advance to avoid a $250 cancellation fee.

Preparing for your EGD

You have been scheduled for an Upper GI endoscopy, sometimes called an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). This is a visual examination of the upper intestinal tract using a lighted, flexible fiber‐optic or video endoscope. Please follow these preparation instructions carefully and don’t hesitate to call our office with questions or concerns.

The night BEFORE your procedure

  • Stop eating all solid food at midnight (12:00 AM) the night before your exam.
  • You may drink CLEAR liquids up to 2 hours before you arrive.
  • Clear liquids include: Water, sports drinks, black coffee, tea, any soda (light or dark), broth,Jell-O, popsicles, and juices without pulp (NOTHING RED OR PURPLE).
  • NOTHING BY MOUTH FOR 2 HOURS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE! (This includes water, gum and mints. NOTHING by mouth.)

Important Information

Medications:

  • DO NOT skip your medications. Take regularly prescribed medications, except as noted below, at least two (2) hours before you arrive. If you have an inhaler, please bring it with you.

Diabetics:

  • IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY TAKING DIABETIC/WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATIONS such as Ozempic®, Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity® or other semaglutide or GLP-1 receptor agonists, please call the Endoscopy Center immediately. You must discontinue this type of medication for a full 7 days before a sedated procedure.
  • DO NOT take oral diabetic medication or insulin the morning of your procedure. Bring your insulin with you.
  • Test your blood sugar before coming in for your procedure and bring the reading with you.
  • Please contact the physician that manages your diabetic care if you have any questions regarding your oral medication or insulin dosages.

Blood Thinners:

  • If you are taking blood thinners, call your prescribing physician and ask if you may stop taking the medication for the required amount of time prior to your procedure.
  • You may continue taking aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti‐inflammatory medications.

Bring with You:

  • Rescue inhaler for asthma, insulin for diabetics
  • Paper Registration Forms (only needed if you did NOT register online)
  • Photo ID, Insurance Card and any amount owed
  • List of all medications, vitamins and supplements you are taking (include dosage and last date and time each medication was taken before your arrival)
  • Wear a short‐sleeved shirt

  • 7 Días ANTES de Su Procedimiento: PACIENTES QUE ACTUALMENTE TOMAN UN AGONISTA DEL RECEPTOR GLP-1 PARA LA DIABETES O PÉRDIDA DE PESO, como Ozempic®, Semaglutida, Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity®, Victoza® u otros medicamentos compuestos o genéricos similares, deben ponerse en contacto con su médico para recibir instrucciones sobre cómo suspender el medicamento al menos 7 días antes de su procedimiento. Para su seguridad, su procedimiento será reprogramado si estos medicamentos se toman dentro de los 7 días anteriores a su cita programada.

  • PODRÍAMOS LLAMAR EL DÍA ANTERIOR PARA AJUSTAR SU HORA DE LLEGADA mientras finalizamos el horario del centro.
  • NO SE PERMITEN NIÑOS MENORES DE 16 AÑOS en las citas.
  • ESTÉ ATENTO A UN MENSAJE DE TEXTO Y CORREO ELECTRÓNICO 4 días antes de su procedimiento con un enlace para completar su registro en línea obligatorio.
  • Para CANCELAR o REPROGRAMAR su cita para otro día, llámenos al menos con 48 horas de anticipación para evitar una tarifa de cancelación de $250.

Instrucciones para imprimir

7 Dias ANTES del Procedimiento

Los pacientes que toman Ozempic®, Semaglutida, Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity®, Victoza® u otros medicamentos genéricos similares para la diabetes o la reducción de peso deben SUSPENDER su uso al menos 7 días antes de su procedimiento. Esto debe hacerse bajo la dirección de su médico prescriptor. Para su seguridad, su procedimiento será reprogramado si se toman estos medicamentos dentro de los 7 días previos a su procedimiento.

AVISO: NUESTRA OFICINA PUEDE LLAMAR EL DÍA ANTERIOR PARA AJUSTAR SU HORA DE LLEGADA A MEDIDA QUE FINALIZAMOS EL HORARIO DEL CENTRO.

La noche ANTES de su procedimiento

  • Deje de comer todo alimento sólido a partir de la medianoche (12:00 a.m.).

Día del Procedimiento

  • Tome sus medicamentos regularmente recetados (excepto los anticoagulantes o medicamentos para la diabetes/pérdida de peso, según se describe).
  • Puede seguir bebiendo LÍQUIDOS TRANSPARENTES hasta 2 horas antes de su llegada (NADA ROJO O MORADO):
    • Agua
    • Bebidas Deportivas
    • Café/Té Negro
    • Gaseosas (claras u oscuras)
    • Caldo
    • Gelatina
    • Jugo (sin pulpa)
    • Paletas heladas
  • NO INGERIR NADA POR LA BOCA durante las 2 horas previas a su hora de llegada: no agua, mentas ni chicle.
  • ESTE ES UN PROCEDIMIENTO CON SEDANTE. UN CONDUCTOR RESPONSABLE DEBE PERMANECER EN LA INSTALACIÓN DURANTE TODA SU CITA (90-120 minutos en total). SIN EXCEPCIONES.

DIABÉTICOS – INSULINA

  • No tome medicamentos orales para la diabetes ni insulina el día de su procedimiento.
  • Si toma alguno de los medicamentos mencionados anteriormente para la diabetes o la pérdida de peso, consulte con su médico para recibir instrucciones sobre cómo suspender el medicamento de manera segura al menos 7 días antes de su procedimiento.
  • Monitoree los niveles de azúcar en sangre mientras esté sin medicación. Ajuste la insulina según sea necesario.

ANTICOAGULANTES

  • Si está tomando anticoagulantes recetados, llame al médico que se los prescribió para preguntar si puede suspender el medicamento por el tiempo requerido antes de su procedimiento.
  • Puede seguir tomando ibuprofeno, aspirina y medicamentos similares de venta libre hasta el día antes de su procedimiento. NO los tome el día del procedimiento.

RAIGA CON USTED:

  • Deje los objetos de valor y el teléfono/dispositivos en casa o con su conductor.
  • Lleve su identificación con foto y tarjeta de seguro.
  • Lleve su inhalador, si usa uno.
  • Lleve su lectura de azúcar en sangre e insulina, si la usa.
  • Lleve una lista de todos los medicamentos, vitaminas y suplementos (incluya la dosis y la última fecha/hora en que los tomó antes de su llegada).
  • Use una camisa de manga corta.
